HONOR actually brought a robot phone to MWC, and I kind of love it

Wait, an actual robot?

Okay, so I've been on my feet for seven hours. The MWC floor is loud. Every booth is screaming about AI.

But HONOR's demo stopped me cold.

They've got this robot phone sitting on a desk. And it moves. Like, actually physically moves. Not vibration. Not screen animations. The whole camera module tilts, pans, tracks you as you walk past.

I picked up the honor robot phone expecting it to feel gimmicky or top heavy. It doesn't. It's surprisingly balanced. The camera system has this tiny motor built in some 4DoF gimbal thing they miniaturized and when you set it down, it just... follows you. Nods when you nod. It's unsettling in the best way.

During a video call demo, the phone tracked the HONOR rep as he moved across the booth. No tripod. No manual adjustments. Just sitting there on a table doing its thing. I've used plenty of "smart tracking" features before. They're usually garbage. This one worked.

Also, 200MP camera. The sample shots looked sharp, but the lighting in these booths is always a lie, so take that with salt.

The foldable and the humanoid

The Magic V6 was there too. Thinner than I expected under 9mm folded, which is wild for something with a 6,660mAh battery. The crease is flatter. Like, noticeably flatter. I ran my finger across it. Still there, obviously, but not the canyon you get on some foldables.

Brightness is insane. They had it cranked up to max and it was borderline painful to look at. Good for outdoor use, I guess.

Then there's the humanoid robot. Yeah, HONOR's building a full humanoid now. It was behind glass, so I couldn't touch it, but it was doing this smooth arm-reaching demo. The guy next to me said it's supposed to help with shopping or workplace tasks. I don't know. Consumer robots always feel five years away from being useful. But paired with the robot phone, you can see they're serious about this "embodied AI" push.

The booth was packed, so I didn't catch everything. Someone stepped on my foot. The Wi-Fi was useless.

Look, I don't know if people actually want a phone that moves on its own. But after a day of identical AI assistant demos, HONOR at least built something you can see working. The gimbal thing is real. The foldable is solid. The humanoid is... ambitious.
